I'm not sure what the author was trying to do when telling this story but unfortunately, it just didn't resonate with me. What is it supposed to be? A fictional narrative? It reads like a memoir most of the time, and then slam poetry the rest of the time.

Some great writing, some not so much, but a very thoughtful and deeply sad story.
