I dont know how to review this book it just doesn't seem to be defined well. It reads as a well written classic such as Jane Eyre in a similar time period. It is clever in its use of footnotes to go along with a fictional tale that makes you believe it is non-fiction. But somehow fitting that into a fantasy tale about magicians in 1800 England was hard to balance for me through all 800 pages. This very, very long book dropped my interest several times. I listened to it on one of my two-day road trips and at times listened to the same disc more than once to be sure I was following the story correctly. It is set in the era of the Napoleonic War and surrounds two English magicians who are trying to revive the practice of modern magic. Not much to say except that I did not care for this book. It was very tedious, although at times I thought it might pick up, but just didn't do it for me.
