I had a bit of a hard time following it.
In "Between the World and Me," Ta-Neshi Coates writes to his teenage son about his experiences of growing up black in America. Coates tells his son that he believes race is a myth, one that America has built it's empire upon. He shares stories of his youth and young adulthood, always referring to his "body." I've been putting off writing a review of this book until we had a chance to discuss in book club. I feel like this is a work that needs to be discussed and analyzed in order to help me crystallize some of my feelings about it. And the discussion was definitely helpful! I found the book to be interesting but somewhat overwrought. Coates is definitely effective at showing us how he feels and how he felt in the past...
