I approach reading a book such as The Girl on the Train with all the hype surrounding it in a state of both excitement and trepidation. With promises that it’s going to be one of the year's best books, I read the book with this expectation hovering over me. I really wanted to love it, to be able to proclaim my agreement with the horn tooters and prophets. It was interesting to see if I would fall in with those who proclaim its genius or those who failed to be smitten.

A real page turner! I was on the edge of my seat. Paula Hawkins kept me guessing until the very end. If you are looking for a quick and suspenseful weekend read, curled up in front of the fire while the snow piles up outside this is the book for you. If you read this book in the Summer this would make a great beach read too! I look forward to reading more from this author.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars. Most of the book was the kind of thriller that I didn't want to put down so I finished it quickly and found it an engrossing read. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that there was some inconsistency in terms of the main character's (Rachel) relationship with her ex husband (Tom) and the ending of the book. (view spoiler)

Not my usual choice of genre. I find these psychological thrillers too stressful for me. With that stated, I thought the book was well written and I read it for book club.
Rachel rides the train every morning and fantasizes about the lives of the people she views from the window. Megan wishes her life was different. She struggles with being faithful. Anna doesn't care that she ruined a marriage because she has a great life now if only the ex wife would leave them alone. All three voices take the ...more
