Of all the WWII novels I've read - and I've read a few - this would have to rank in my top 5. This is also my first encounter with Hannah's work, but many of my friends had wonderful things to say about her. I can see why.

I actually give this 4.5 stars. I think the only thing holding me back is that is took me 50 pages to get into because I felt like I could hear the "writing," if that makes sense. Once I coaxed myself to chill and just enjoy, I really got into it. I have read a lot of WWII novels, or at least feel like I have, and I enjoyed the different angles this one presented, particularly surrounding women's roles in the resistance.
