The lyrical writing style takes you to another place. The characters are rich and endearing. A family deals with a horrible tragedy, trying to find a balance with being loyal and true to your family and true to yourself.

Reuben witnesses many miracles in his young life that teach him to value things as God does - even in the midst of events that have tragic consequences. It is written with such beautiful language and humor that it leaves you hungry for more. The only negative is that the ending is so hurried.
Beautiful writing and development of haunting characters. Loved it.
