This was a slower read for me but I liked this book better than the first of the series. This book focuses more on external forces coming to bear on the couple rather than romantic tension in the relationship. There are strong female characters in a patriarchal system. Nonetheless, but the end of the book I felt satisfied and just checked out the next in the series.

I love me some highlanders and Maya Banks sure does write them beautifully. Er well handsomely. Alaric is sexy, loyal, big and brawny. My kinda hottie! I think Keeley was absolutely perfect for him. Her self-sacrifice at the end was touching and really showed her character. I saw that ending coming from far away but it still made me cry. Now I can't wait to see how Caelen handles Rionna.

This was a great addition to the series. I am not a fan of medieval historical romances, but wanted to try this because I love Ms Banks's books. I am not disappointed. This one is just as enthralling to me as the first one. The characters drew me in, I felt for them and was in tears a few times. Great story, no matter what your genre preference! :)
