The last 20% of the book was the best part of the entire story because Luc finally stepped up to the plate and actually did something for Oliver. Up until that point Oliver was doing everything for Luc within Luc reciprocating in the least. It made me question what Oliver even saw in Luc because Luc certainly wasn’t doing it for me. I didn’t like him for the majority of the book. I thought he didn’t deserve Oliver, who I loved to pieces. Luc just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t like him for the majority of the book. I thought he didn’t deserve Oliver, who I loved to pieces. Luc just rubbed me the wrong way. It was hard to root for the romance when you didn’t care for one half of the couple.

It was especially hard to root for this couple after have recently read Casey McQuiston’s MM romance featuring Henry and Alex. I loved Henry and Alex’s romance so much so the entire I am reading Oliver and Luc’s story I was comparing it to them. Henry and Alex have been stuck in my mind, and I have thought of them multiple times after read their story. That will not be the case for Oliver and Luc.

I thought for all the sexual discussions that went on in the story there was very little explicit scenes between Oliver and Luc. In fact it was very much closed door or fade to black scenes between. I didn’t understand that. I wanted at least one love scene on page. It might have helped in seeing their emotional and physical connection earlier than what I felt it was shown. It would have made more sense to see them as a “real” couple. It was very late in the game hence why I wasn’t a fan of the romance.

The highlight of this story was the character of Oliver. He just took the cake. He was so sweet and loving and very generous. He warmed my heart so much. I wanted everything for him. He was such special guy, and I couldn’t help but love him. The things he said and did for Luc were absolutely beautiful. He just did it for me. He was the best.

Overall this was a very disappointing romance for me. I didn’t like Luc until the 80% mark, which made it really hard to be invested in the romance. I just couldn’t see what Oliver saw in Luc, who was very much not doing anything for Oliver until the end. For me, that was way too late. It wasn’t an equal relationship. There was more taking than giving and taking. I didn’t like that. The bright spot was the character of Oliver. I loved him so much. He deserved the world. He was such a sweetheart. He made this story worth reading in the end. ...more

As always with Alexis Hall, this book was well written, interesting, emotional and of course really funny. This is the first time this trope of a fake boyfriend/fiancé was mildly believable to me. It was definitely a little different than the usual in that this is for their jobs not obnoxious parents.

There were some similarities to Glitterland—the not posh person meeting people who are and who judge him, but it’s not so severe and it’s a totally different situation. Still, she writes high class ...more

This book is a delight and meant to be savored. I haven’t laughed out loud while reading in a long time and I did so multiple times during this read. I didn’t want it to send so I stretched reading it as long as possible.

Ah! I have been looking forward to this book all year and it did not disappoint! I was prepared for rom-com fun, but the thing that took me by surprise was how much it hit me in the feels. I am not a crier, but I found myself with wet eyes more often than I care to admit out loud. It was a wonderful read!

A lovely story of two flawed individuals who are better together than apart. And I do love a ~~fake~~ relationship! It has the feeling of a bit of Red, White, and Royal Blue and a bit of Notting Hill...
