A truly lovely story in a brilliantly crafted world with charming characters that draw you into a story so engaging and absorbing, you wish it never had to end. But all stories must end and this one ends on a wonderfully romantic note that will resonate with readers and keep this as a must read in the future. With an attention to detail and descriptive prose, this story takes the time to develop and let the characters fully emerge. The slow blooming romance and lack of explicit sex is well worth ...more

Wow! This book has a really full storyline - this is not just a straight M/M romance. It is a great insight into the post WW1 America (specifically New York). Clearly poetic license would have been used throughout the book, but the key issues remain as being concern/issues for citizens during that period - PTSD and other war injuries, mafia-type bullies, prohibition, extreme poverty and lack of employment, jazz (naughty new music!), medical misinformation and propaganda, and most significantly, ...more

I picked this up, intending to read it for the Scavenger Hunt, and realized I had already read it. Unfortunately, not remembering that I'd even read it means I don't remember enough to leave a review, but I do remember loving it as I do all Allen's books. ...more

A completely charming historical m/m romance set in 1919 NYC.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, to anyone who enjoys historical romances in the m/m genre which are scarce.
This is a charming old-fashioned love story set in 1919 NYC with 2 hurting WW1 veterans who have an opposites attract romance.
Although the narrator felt very stilted in the beginning, after a while I became used to his cadence and liked his narration.

This was a book that I had to fully savor. The world building enveloped you in New York City during that time period and really provided the foundation for this great story. I felt a part of the story and experienced all the highs and lows along with this great cast of characters. Sutton and Jack are a match made in heaven and their personalities are only enhanced by a great cast of secondary characters. Great read!
