I love the idea of this story - to weave a mythical story into the present day tale is not easy. Yet, the author pulls this off and how! The story has everything, colours, textures, smells, emotions and a set of great characters with layers. There is a story embedded within this about a strong female character. I should like this, I should love this, I almost should be soaking wet with all the different emotions layered into this fabric of this great tale - yet, it left me not panting

It took me a while to think of what I really thought about the book. It tells the story of an average family going through troubles created by outbreaks of war in North Africa. It's heartbreaking to know the pains this family is put through for no fault of their own though I feel the author has only skimmed the surface on the possible atrocities that accompany such a war. This actually worked for me, as they could trigger even more intense emotions.

Beautifully written book, full of colours and emotions, a story of humanity, both the good side and the bad side of it. A story of a beautiful country and its people who saw all the horrors possible looking for a better
