Another 3.5 star book.
I had decided not to read this back when it was first recommended to me and having now read it and enjoyed, I think that was probably the right choice. It's something I probably would have really enjoyed 10-15 years ago but has by now lost some of its luster conceptually. And just like that, I have a new book on my favorites list. This story is imaginative, touching, funny, and clever. Valente tells a beautiful story, never pretending this idea of a fairyland is new but always making it feel fresh and exciting. The language alone is enchanting; the richness of the characters and the depth of the details left me desperate for more.
Book 2 is arriving on Tuesday but how do I wait until then?? I still feel half in Fairyland...
