Did I enjoy it? For the most part, yes.
Would I read it again? Some of the stories maybe, but probably not the book as a whole.
Who would I recommend it to? People who like short stories, and who like fantasy/supernatural type stories.
Any other thoughts? I liked this collection much better overall than I liked Neil Gaiman's Trigger Warning, which I read just over a week ago. Highlights of the collection were definitely The Summer People, Secret Identities, Origin Story, and The New Boyfriend. I do ...more

Books I really like are often hard for me to review, especially if they just seem magically perfect and darkly fantastic, and especially if they are short story collections (or graphic novels but that at least doesn't apply here.) While I do think none of the later stories matched the perfect-ness of the first, each comes to a conclusion at the exact right moment.

I don't normally read books of short stories--it's too jarring to me to read them all in one day or so, my preferred reading method--but obviously I make an exception for the fantastic (in all meanings) Kelly Link! Her stories are so weird and wonderful, and these are some of her finest. I think I loved the Paul Zell one best, and the Oz one, though of course I am partial to stories with superheroes. And the two featuring ghosts creeped me out so badly tha ...more
