So when someone tells me a book is the most disturbing book they have read…I am going to read it. I heard that Verity by Colleen Hoover is dark and shocking, so I immediately bought it. It is about a struggling author named Lowen. Her mother just passed away and bills are piling up. She is approached by a man named Jeremy, the husband of a famous author Verity Crawford. Verity cannot finish her book series since she is severely injured from a car accident and they want Lowen to complete the seri So when someone tells me a book is the most disturbing book they have read…I am going to read it. I heard that Verity by Colleen Hoover is dark and shocking, so I immediately bought it. It is about a struggling author named Lowen. Her mother just passed away and bills are piling up. She is approached by a man named Jeremy, the husband of a famous author Verity Crawford. Verity cannot finish her book series since she is severely injured from a car accident and they want Lowen to complete the series. Lowen agrees, mainly because it will help her get back up on her feet financially. Lowen goes to live at the Crawford home in order to research Verity’s notes for the books. Verity discovers her autobiography manuscript. It is full of Verity’s darkest secrets. Secrets that could end her marriage to Jeremy. Lowen can’t help but be attracted to Jeremy, but she also doesn’t want to add to his grief. However, Lowen can’t help but think there is more to Verity than her injury.

DUUUUUUUDE! What a trip! I loved this book! It is all sorts of dark and twisty. For me, it doesn’t try too hard. Sometimes that kills a story for me. But not with this book. I love how the book is told from Lowen’s perspective, but then we see each chapter of the manuscript from Verity’s perspective. It flows perfectly and allows the reader time to think about what is happening.

Now, before I go any further. Verity is psychotic. No matter if you believe the manuscript or not. So if you are uncomfortable with abortion discussions, violence against children, etc… this may not be the book for you. That being said, if you have watched Criminal Minds or a lot of crime shows then you are totally fine. I love reading and watching crime thrillers so her admissions were definitely dark but not exactly shocking for me. I do appreciate the very real portrayal of post-partum psychosis. I have met a couple of people who have had this and it is very real. Heartbreaking and difficult to understand, but real.

Then there is just the general creepy factor. Verity is almost in a vegetative state, but Lowen knows something is off. There were moments where I actually got the chills. The author does a great job of adding a layer of eerie behavior from both Lowen and Verity.

Overall, I am STILL thinking about this book, so that is a great sign. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I am not sure my bookclub feels the same but we shall see when we meet up! ...more

Without any other alternative in site, Verity’s husband sets out to find a lesser known writer to help complete the obligation to the publisher. Jeremy knows that he only has one chance to find someone that will keep the secrets surrounding Verity’s accident, and keep his wife’s career on the spectrum that her fans have come to expect. With the help of Verity’s publisher, Jeremy propositions Lowen to finish out his wife’s contract. What Lowen wouldn’t realize is just how consuming this task would become.

Wow…..get ready for the most unexpected Colleen Hoover book to date!! Verity is a psychological thriller that dabbles in a little romance while taking you on an unexpected journey that will leave you in awe from the unusual plotline of the book! While this is categorized at a ‘thriller’, there wasn’t any situation in the book that I found to ‘strong’ for my personal tastes. With that said, I finished the story without a definitely decision on the love/hate relationship you will find yourself embarking upon with the characters.

One thing is certain, Verity will lead you on a roller coaster ride that will leave your brain spinning. The content is thrilling, engaging and at times extremely disturbing. There will be a few moments where you may find yourself questioning how you ended up with such a ‘unique’ read in your hands, and then you will continue on the quest to discover the madness that entails Verity’s world. One thing is certain; you will close the last chapter wondering how something so twisted came from the writing of an author like Colleen Hoover!! Verity is twisted, engrossing, and a story that pushes all of your boundaries for reading.

Colleen has stepped into a writing style that definitely is out of her ‘norm’, but it’s one that will definitely stick in your brain long after you finish the last line of the book. One thing I can promise…..you will either love Verity or hate it!! It’s definitely that ‘kind’ of read!!

Shelves: suspenseful, loved-it, devoured, intriguing, dark-and-twisted, psychological-thriller

Oh how I love the dark side of Colleen Hoover!! I need more of it!! We are used to the side of her that brings us epic love stories but never in a million years did I see this one coming! As I was reading I was trying to figure out the ending, how would it all come together. With Verity I could say just expect the unexcepted!! Such an amazing 5 star read for me! This definitely one that needs to be read!

Before I delve into the quick review, I would recommend that if you plan to read Verity, you look up the triggers.

I went into Verity completely unaware, I didn't read the summary. This was recommended to me. All they said was "It's dark.". Understatement. It's unbelievably disturbing and horrifying.

Was thinking dang this book is maybe a 3 star, too much of a porno.. even said that to my boyfriend, then not even 30 seconds later, just wow. Okay, now I get it Colleen. What a well written story.
