I really enjoyed this book. I honestly never wanted to put it down.
The world building was great and all of the characters were well-developed and seemed really real. I have a few things about Sarah J. Mass’s style of writing that I don’t like. I feel as though she uses former and latter way too much and this has been a common thing through all the books of hers that I’ve read. I love books with a multi-layered story. And this, for me, had it in spades!! The story starts out strong with multiple characters and their storyline. Granted, it makes for a much longer book but I loved every moment of it. I laughed and I cried and my heart ached for one of the main characters, Bryce. So much sacrifice and love for others but she couldn’t see her own worth due because of how others treated her. I loved it all to the very last page!!

There was too much world building and I couldn’t remember who was who or what was whatI had to go back and re-read several portions just to make sure I was reading things properly. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the characters and their personal growth throughout the story but the history of Crescent City itself & world building took over and I just wanted to skim because it was so redundant in conversations.
