4 “Lust, Learn and Love” stars!

It’s taken me a couple of days to process this story and to figure out exactly how I felt about it. I was warned going into this book that I would either love it or hate it and surprisingly enough I’m leaning more towards love, but I’m not all the way there.

Wow. That was an interesting read. If I say it was hot will that mean there is something wrong with me? Maybe. But it was definitely hot. I don't know how Penelope Douglas managed to make the situation not be weird, but she did. Glad she also managed an HEA, because I was worried that there was no way that could happen with this book. ...more

Incredible read! I was hooked from the very beginning. This was definitely one twisted story but at the same time the author managed to make it very emotional too. I’m so glad I read it!!

I’m so proud of myself y’all.

I am so proud of myself for the sheer fact that I finished this book. I wanted to DNF, skim, and vomit so many times, but I did none of the above.

I’ve heard a lot about this book and all of it suggested that it would not be up my alley. However, I thought that about Punk 57 and I loved it. So again, I wanted to try something new and get out of my comfort zone.

Let it be known that polygamous stories are not for me. If that weren’t all, I think Tiernan out of all the I’m so proud of myself y’all.

Let it be known that polygamous stories are not for me. If that weren’t all, I think Tiernan out of all the books I’ve read, could benefit from a psychologist the most. The girl seriously needs help.

See Tiernan, has a lot of mental trauma in her past so to speak. She closed in on herself, stopped learning how to communicate, and denied herself things that she wants. It’s not until her parents pass and her step - uncle contacts her about living with him and his two sons in Colorado that things might change. Needing out of the life that she’s in, she takes him up on his offer.

What I liked about it was that the longer she was there, the more she started to open up and learn things about herself and come out of her shell. However, she got turned on if anyone gave her even the slightest bit of attention. This due to the lack of attention she received from her parents. She thought that she might be more lovable through sex. Supposedly she knows the difference and no one besides her step family felt right, but she got turned on by a complete stranger in a lake. What should have been a fight or flight response almost ended up being something else entirely.

To sum Tiernan up throughout this book, she was confused and desperate for attention.

Not to mention her step family’s thought process. She was something to be fought over and protected yet Kaleb acts like a child when things weren’t going his way with her because he has no other way to communicate (or rather he wouldn’t), Noah sometimes thought she had to obey him on some level because “no one says no to him”, and Jake thought she was some sort of revenge payment for what her parents did to him.

And while I did not agree with most of Kaleb’s actions, I didn’t like how she would call him mute and taunt him, especially earlier on when she didn’t know anything about him. For someone who wasn’t the most talkative herself, she should’ve been the one to be the most understanding with him and I thought it was very hypocritical to a certain extent.

I did not see how she could come to fall in love with any of them besides Noah because he’s the one I felt she had the most connection with. Because they actually communicated and learned things about each other, could talk to each other about things they couldn’t tell anyone else.

Overall, this shit is just taboo and weird as hell in so so many ways. There’s not as much sex taking place as I expected, don’t get me wrong, there’s still a good amount, but there’s a lot of tension and build up between those scenes.

I could write at least a 3 page paper about all the things that are fundamentally wrong in this book, but I will spare you guys and leave you with the small snippet I’ve described in this review. There are also a good bit of grammar errors that I noticed throughout the book. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of Penelope Douglas’ writing style in certain instances. In the past, I’ve previously loved their writing style, but this one fell short for me in a lot of ways.
