3.5 ‘Convince Me’ stars!

Let me just start out by saying that I love Kenney Ryan and her writing style. She writes books that pull you in and tell a wonderful story, no matter how hard they are to read. My main problem with this book wasn’t the writing talent of the author but the storyline itself and the inconsistency of the characters and their behaviours.

I loved how this story started out. Two college students who made a deep connection only to have it ripped apart by some terrible, entitled 3.5 ‘Convince Me’ stars!

Let me just start out by saying that I love Kenney Ryan and her writing style. She writes books that pull you in and tell a wonderful story, no matter how hard they are to read. My main problem with this book wasn’t the writing talent of the author but the storyline itself and the inconsistency of the characters and their behaviours.

I loved how this story started out. Two college students who made a deep connection only to have it ripped apart by some terrible, entitled frat boys. Banner’s humiliation was sad to watch, her heartbreak even sadder. I could completely understand how she thought that Jared had used her to get into ‘The Pride’ (a secret boys club).

”If you’re a good kisser,” I say softly, not releasing her eyes and leaning one last time on our professor, “convince me.”

I really did love Banner! Yes, she had her weight/body issues that have been a continuous struggle for her, but she was brilliant, determined, and not afraid to play ball with the big boys. I just couldn’t justify her actions with Jared; they seemed so out of character for her. She destroyed her relationship with Zo so rashly and it was hard for me to wrap my head around her betrayal. I would have been so much more supportive of her relationship with Jared if she had only been honest with Zo beforehand.

I wanted to love Jared more than I did. He started out so great and then his actions made him feel too much like the bad guy. His lack of empathy towards anyone else but Banner (and sometimes even including Banner) was off-putting and left a bad taste in my mouth. I applaud him for never giving up on Banner and pursuing her to the degree that he did. I wish that his struggle to gain her favour had been a little more difficult, it came too easy to him.

She is bright and good. And I can be dark, bad when I have to be. Sometimes when I don’t have to be, but just want to be. She is day and I am night. When day and night are absolutely equal, it’s equinox. Banner is my equinox. My equal.

Zo, sweet and good Zo. He didn’t deserve to be treated the way he did. I love what a gentle, caring soul he is. He totally deserves his own HEA and I would love to read his story. I love that even after Banners betrayal he was still willing to fight for her, that he loved her that much.

After reading Long Shot I was expecting to have my heart once again ripped out and put back together again, sadly this wasn’t the case. I do appreciate that each of these books, though a series, are so different from each other. I just didn’t connect with this story as much as I did with August & Iris. ...more

~I love a good enemies to lovers story, but I just couldn’t get into the first book...so I’m watching reviews for this and will possibly give it a go~

Kennedy Ryan has become a favorite author of mine and I was super excited to read Block Shot. Overall, I enjoyed this book. Jared was arrogant and sometimes a bit of a jerk but it totally worked for him. The things I loved about Jared were that he was completely all about Banner from the beginning and always wanted her for who she was, inside and out.
