Spoiler Ahead This was a pretty good book that I enjoyed. Roxie Callahan is a chef in Hollywood. When her mom calls her with a request to run the family’s diner for the summer, Roxie does it, even though it’s the last thing she wants to do. Sassy, sweet, laugh out loud fun, Nuts was as heartwarming as it was sexy.

Alice Clayton out did herself this time. Nuts quickly became my favorite of all her books thus far. And I'm a pretty big fan already! I'm so excited to see what else this series has in store for us.

Alice does such a great job of writing strong and independent female protagonists. They're always very real in that clumsy, quirky, smart, gorgeous way. Roxie is no exception. She's the perfect example of small hometown girl with commitment issues. Only her issues are actually very sound and I'm sure many will be able to relate. Maybe we didn't all grow up with free loving hippie moms, well maybe just the free loving part, but we all grow up with some sort of familial dysfunction. So she flees as soon as she can. All the way to California, Roxie is trying to make a life for herself. So when her mom calls and asks her to come home...yea she's not too eager.

What I loved about Nuts more than anything, was that even though the romance is there and it's in the forefront, there's also this really sweet story about a girl seeing her hometown through grown up eyes. It's about realizing that sometimes we may need to get away and spread our wings, but home is and always will be that safe harbor. Some of us are made for the big city and some are made for a quieter more simple way of living and there's absolutely nothing wrong with any of it.

Watching Roxie's transition and her internal struggle of falling for Bailey Falls was just as enticing as watching her fall for the sexy farmer Leo Maxwell. And fall our sweet Roxie does, several times, in several different places. Nuts has movie deal written all over it. I would absolutely love to see Roxie and Leo's love story play out on the big screen and in a big way. It's just that good. I actually cried tears of happiness. You know those sweet, sappy tears you cry at the end of a really good movie. You've been smiling so hard your cheeks hurt, your nose is all stingy, and the tears just fall uncontrollably. Yes....just that....and I'd do it again and again.

And that beard. What constituted a hipster beard? Is it the length? The shape? The proximity to flannel and Mumford? We were within twenty yards of an heirloom tomato; does that count as hipster cred?

Leo is a doll, all strong, mysterious, sexy, and all man. He's the farmer we all dream about or least would dream about if we were dreaming of farmers! Nuts takes us back to when farming was and still is a good thing. Live off the land, pour that love back into your local community, and really invest in the people who buy from you. Nuts is heavy in the return of mom and pop shops, local butchers, and bakers. It's all done in a really classy way that made me reminiscent for the "old" days and I'm not that old.

Nuts is so brilliant and I'm super excited for the release. I'm already thinking about a re-read and I never do that!
