This was my first Ian Rutledge novel - in fact it's the first in the series - and I'm already a huge fan and looking forward to more. Rutledge is a fascinating character, and the progression of the mystery/suspects/clues kept me on the edge of my seat.

A great beginning to a wonderful series. Ian Rutledge is a Scotland Yard detective who survived serving as an officer during the great war but comes home damaged in mind and spirit. His boss doesn't want him back on the job and the horrors of the trenches are ever present. He struggles against both as he hunts a viscous killer.

I love the voice in his head. A good look at post-Great War Britain.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it, including the little countryside town. The detective, Rutledge, is working his first case since being discharged from service during WWI. Can he solve it with his PTSD? No one thinks he can except him and the reader.
