I thought this book was really well written, and gave a very vivid picture of a WWI veteran with PTSD. The mystery is well hidden, though with hints that kept me guessing until the end. It's the first of the series, and I think I would have enjoyed the one I read that came later better if I'd read this one first.

After reading all of Todd's Inspecter Rutledge series, I went back and re-read this first novel. It was as good as I first remembered it and beautifully sets the stage for all that is to follow.
