2️⃣🌟, i think i may have just found another "dark academia " book that tries too hard to tackle many different topics but ended up failing as the writing style absolutely doesn't support the non-existent story

So this is a dark academia fantasy book where a girl named El tries to survive the very dangerous academy where if you fail you die. But the things this book fails to do the most is to actually like DO THE THING IT WANTS TO DO???!!??!?!??!? LIKE A DEADLY EDUCATION..... WHERE'S THE "DEADLY" PART, and also where's the "EDUCATION" part. All that i've read is just El interacting with almost every single person in the academy. There wasn't even any action scenes that happened anywhere, they're all just yapping. It's not like meaningful yapping where it tackles the unique perspectives and challenges of all of the characters its just plain yapping. Every single character here is so flat and so forgettable because we don't really know about them that much, THEY INTERACT WITH EL...THAT'S IT. There are many telling with no showing, there are many times where something is supposed to be happening but nothing just happens because the story just ends up describing the location which is really weird. It's also as if there were literally no stake (instead of the obvious fact that if you fail you die) but even THAT is not fixated on. Just El, El, El and just El. Every other character is just a pawn for her to just do literally whatever she wants when she wants it. (Which is very annoying every single time that it happens), she is also very narcissistic & selfish

"READER, I RAN the fuck away"

Oooooo...kay?????????????????? Why the hell are you talking to me though, this is like a top tier *second hand embarrassment moment 😬😬😬* when it comes to trying to do a fourth wall break. I invisibly cringed when i read that line as it is the last thing that i expected on 90%.

I might also add that the cultural aspects of this book should definitely researched mose since there are many language in cultural references here that (is related to real life), found some of them to be inaccurate......and yeah this book is sort of racist and you can definitely see the undertones with it. But one thing's for sure, Orion will forever be my favorite character and the relationship dynamic that he had with El is just one of the best that i've ever seen. Guo & Nkoyo would be better off being the main characters in this book because both of their independence is something to be inspired about and would be a better pairing for mutual support than the main pair which is El x Orion. There's not that much romance in here (God thank you) so almost everything that happens is for the sake of platonic relationships or relationships to just make them survive this pretty unique dark Academy. ...more

To comprehend required more effort than usual. The overall information, great but may need a little simplification or just illustration added would benefit all. In conclusion, it was around 4.75 stars but rounded to the nearest integer would be 5 so there it is! Cannot wait to buy the next book! My favourites shelve on my bookshelf is starting to overflow-
