What Members Thought

This one's hard to rate and review. It's well written with excellent structure and vivid language to be sure. I'm just not sure how to feel about the subject matter; I couldn't help thinking of the "human zoos" that were popular with white people at the time of publication.

Surprisingly creepy considering it was published the end of the 1800s! I am pretty sure I saw this parodied on Simpsons, but it wasn't till now that I finally read the real thing. PLEASANTLY surprised.

Fast and fun. This must have seemed so outrageous in its day. It doesn't shock, compared to modern horror, but it's still effective. The allegory is none too subtle, but its targets earn this book four stars instead of three. I'll be reading more Wells at some point.
