By the dusk-jacket's own admission, diesel engines are in use. This indicates to me it is not a steampunk story if steam engines are not the tech being utilized. I've only just started reading it though and am holding off on any snap judgments.
And my snap judgement was correct.
This is a very well written book, very much along the lines of what I'd like to write myself, and sounding egotistical, that is high praise. haha

Pretty great introduction to steampunk and alternative timelines. There's lot of action and political intrigue. Includes some fantastic illustrations.
