I loved this book so much, this is the first book I've read by Holly Black and the hype is definitely warranted. The world-building made so much sense (especially because this is the first fae book I've read as well) and I really liked Jude's character, BUT I will say sometimes her inner monologue was a liiiiiittle bit irritating (LIKE WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?! I wanted to throttle her sometimes 💀). Otherwise, I DEVOURED THIS BOOK.

ok......TARYN needs Locke to like, cheat on her I loved this book so much, this is the first book I've read by Holly Black and the hype is definitely warranted. ok......TARYN needs Locke to like, cheat on her. I swear she was so annoying the WHOLE time, I regularly found myself agreeing with Jude and Vivi's logic and reasoning, but TARYN?? nope, honestly I kinda knew something was up with the whole Locke situation, like bro turned into Dumbledore or something, speaking tongues to Jude at the coronation😭😭.

Vivi:
Loved her character, at first I thought she was a biiiiit extreme with Madoc, but in the end, it was justifiable. She is definitely Jude's ride-or-die, even if she doesn't agree with Jude.

Oriana, Oak, Madoc:
OKAY LEMME TELL YOU, the majority of the book Madoc had me fooled, like 'yeah, you murked my parents but you treat me as family. Oh well'. Then the ceremony to crown Prince Balekin (The second ceremony, after Balekin murks his family too) and he was angry, manipulative, SCARY. I was shaking in my boots for Jude. Then the poison hit and I was like YEAHHHH, my sister got scared when I squealed for that lol. Oriana was so sweet the majority of the book. I mean sure one could argue she was a little irritating, but I think that her worries were completely valid. Oak was a lil cutie (when he wasn't trying to steal from, bite, or slap Jude)

Nicasia, Valerian, Locke:
💩🤮...... the end *bows*

No cause really, what more is there to say??? Nicasia just sucks, Valerian is a darker version of Coach Hedge (HoO, the real ones know) Locke with his 'If there's not a good story around, I make one.' can like trip over a knife.

Cardan:
Loved his character, wished there was more banter between Jude and Cardan. LIKE PLSSS. Also when she was interrogating him. AHHHH *melts*

Jude:
I feel like I covered a lot of what I liked in the intro. I absolutely loved that she wasn't too annoying. I don't know about everyone but her thoughts match up with her being 17 (especially because I am around the same age lol). I also didn't want to feel that I was reading an annoying fmc (like Belly in "The Summer I Turned Pretty", although I do know some people did like her narrative, I however did not)
