Ok, I must say the start of the book is good, I was interested to know about her story with her parents, why her uncle hated her father?, where does the nightmares come from (physical trauma? Mental trauma?), how is the relationship with her cousins and uncle going to develop?, why is everyone in this town so freaking What to say about this book? Ok, I must say the start of the book is good, I was interested to know about her story with her parents, why her uncle hated her father?, where does the nightmares come from (physical trauma? Mental trauma?), how is the relationship with her cousins and uncle going to develop?, why is everyone in this town so freaking weird and sexual?, WFT is wrong with Kaleb?, you know, stuff like that.
The premise of the book is very interesting which is why I stuck to it, well that and the smut. That being said, I think Penelope did try to answer those questions but overall failed to make all these answers make sense.
The only thing here that was answered quite well is why the uncle hated her parents. Now why did her parents pretend she didn't exist and treated her so horribly? The answer being because they suck did go well with me, now i understand some parents just don't care about their kids, but never have I read a book where they basically just treat them as ghost, DAMN even ghost would be treated better, I mean at least they would be recognized as existing in the same universe.
The nightmare's explanation also didn't make sense to me, you are telling me she has night terrors because she is alone? Like I am sorry, but the reason she is alone is because she isolated herself, yes her parents disregard helped her become anti social but that's also on her, she could have tried harder to make friends, she was rich, pretty and famous, I am sure people would treat her well if she hadn't excluded herself.
About the town being weird and sexual, no explanation, I guess everyone there is just whoring around. Which makes no sense to me because usually in small towns people tend to be more judging but sure lets pretend the older people in town don't think the younger generations is out of their minds.
How did their relationship developed you might ask, well she decides that although she is in love with Kaleb (apparently from the beginning for no reason what so ever), she would still f*ck his father multiple times (even giving him her virginity) and fuck his brother once. There is this really weird part of the book that i was just rolling my eyes and ripping my hair off where after f*cking both Kaleb and Noah, she decides she doesn't want Kaleb to be ''nice'' to her because that would destroy her, girl was okay with him trying to r*pe her and god forsake he is actually nice to her.
Also the explanation for why he doesn't speak is bunkers to me, like why did his father not put him in therapy? Seriously, I am sorry for what happened to him but dude u need TONS of therapy.
Another thing that bothered me, her uncle and her mother's assistant being together in the end, like are u seriously okay being with a guy that fucked his 18 year old niece? Someone u see as a daughter? Sorry but no.
Overall this book made me feel a lot of things, mostly I felt like I was doing something wrong while reading it. I gave it 3,5 stars though because even with all those annoying things I still ate this book up just like Jake ate Tyernin. Or whatever is her name is. Seriously why do authors use these complicated names that no one has ever heard of? What's wrong with Tara? Or Trish?

I’ve really enjoyed other works by Penelope Douglas, and I saw a lot of mixed reviews about this one, now I understand why. Although these characters are “family” there is no blood relation and they do not meet until the FMC is weeks away from her 18th birthday. As with any Forbidden Romance theme - this was a slow burn that exploded at about 60%.
