This is gonna be a short one.
MFC - Absolutely insufferable. Terrible. Source of great irritation. Contributed HEAVILY to the low rating.
Other characters - Everyone deserves to get eaten, ESPECIALLY Dr.Toth and her glances and some more glances and even more glances. Luis is the only one who deserves to survive and even he had moments where I wanted to yeet the book across the room.

There are two elements I liked about this story. Firstly, the sirens in this story are not like Disney's Ariel, they are more demonic, fish-people that would have made Lovecraft proud! Secondly, the idea of sign language to facilitate communication between humans and sirens is clever and allows the introduction of characters that speak ASL (American Sign Language).
