What Members Thought

If you have plans to read this book, which I think you should DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF. Don't skip pages, don't read reviews. Just don't. You're better off not knowing ANYTHING, trust me.
Fantastic! Really special book. I wasn't able to put it down. The writing style is so rich and unique. It gives a dream like feel. It's like you're reading through a fog in a best way possible.

I finished this book in one sitting, at first it was a bit confusing because I couldn't get the characters straight, but soon after it was a breeze to read. Great story, satisfying ending and was not expecting the twist. I almost rated it 5 stars but hated 99% of the characters and the purple prose so settled on 4 stars.

That plot twist blew my mind.I so did not see it coming...I can't give it 5 full stars, more like 4.5, because I love it, but I hate it.

This was the weirdest, most depressing book ever? I just didn't see the point?

Honestly, I could not even finish this book I disliked it so much. This was the first E. Lockhart book I have ever read, and although there was a lot of hype around the book, it did not match up to it. Here are a few of the major problems I found within the book.
Mild Spoilers Follow
1) The structure was confusing. I could not wrap my head around the changes between the intertwining "fairytale" was so irrelevant and honestly did not add anything to the story, most of the time i skipped over it. ...more

Booktubeathon read #2
I had high expectations of this book because of the hype and mystery surrounding the novel and I'm glad I went into it not knowing much at all. I ended up loving it.
I won't go into too much detail since it is a contemporary and the twist draws most of everything together in the story.
I thought how this book was done was great. I got confused in some of the flashbacks but overall I really liked how the story was told and the writing style was original and had a significant ...more

We Were Liars is a contemporary/mystery/thriller by E. Lockhart. This story follows the beautiful Sinclair family, a family who is perfect and will do everything they can to maintain that reputation. Except, how possible is that?
The main character is a young girl by the name of Cadence "Cady". Every summer she visits her family's island with the rest of her family. Her, her cousins Johnny and Mirren and Johnny's friend Gat. Cady is a troubled interesting character. She has a good amount of dept ...more

WE WERE LIARS shocked and gripped me. Not only did it have a haunting twist, but it had amazing characters and tackles issues such as illness, trauma, class and race. The book, as well as being a mystery leaves the reader with a powerful message. I really enjoyed and flew through this book - the perfect book to read in the car.

Mind= Blown! I had seen many many mixed reviews for this book. I decided to read it because it was recommended for fans of Gone Girl. It was no Gone Girl, but for me the twist was much less expected than the one from Gone Girl. With GG, I pretty much know nearly halfway in how it would end. But this, I wasn't expecting at all. I was expecting some sort of betrayal, but not the twist ending that was bestowed on us. I really loved it. I was glued and read it in a day! :)

wow. WOW. this book is unexpected, fascinating, thought-provoking, well written, and strong. it does not lack from only being 225 pages, and the story is INCREDIBLY well told. I am so glad I read this before being influenced by spoilers or hype, and I'm even more glad that we were given such a great book by e. lockhart. this book is beautiful, and i HIGHLY encourage everyone to read it.

Holy plot twist. I guessed a few small things, but the ending was so unpredictable and exciting for me! I really loved being surprised by a book. I also listened to this as an audiobook, and for someone who doesn't enjoy that format a lot, I liked the narrator!
