A haunting and strange love story.
Loved the book until the very end twist which ruined it for me.
I was prepared to be underwhelmed by this book because I tend to be a literature snob and this is the type of novel that I think of as beach and easy reading. I really enjoyed it, though. Patchett has a lovely voice and the some of the characters' descriptions are wonderfully subtle and nuanced, particularly some minor characters. Kato, the "new" pianist, the Swiss Red Cross Agent, and the VP in particular.
