This is the book that was chosen for the 2016 group alternate read. February - Young Adult.

5 stars

I had seen this book everywhere. At the bookstore and in libraries. So, when I saw that there was a group read with this book, I thought I should finally read it. Also, I had book recommendations from Andrea and Kate. I got it and then read the book sypnosis. The book sypnosis made me think it was stupid. I grudgingly started reading it. It was a lot better than I expected. A real lot better than I

Wondrously unique and addictive.

Oh Stars in heaven, I need Scarlet right at this very moment. I am surprised that I loved this book more than I allow myself to. To be honest I didn't set my expectations too high, the least I wanted to happen was to end up disappointed. But boy, this book is anything but disappointment. It was a real page-turner. It has everything I wanted in a book: romance, great world-building, badass heroine and some fantasy. I specifically loved that the things that have

Some YA books are definitely YA, and some are more universal. This one is definitely YA, which means the ending is obvious right from the start, but it's still a nice, entertaining story. While the Cinderella fairy tale is the basic inspiration for this story, much of the story is unique. ...more

Me encantó!!!

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer
First off, I'm glad I found the series when it was completed because it's great to be able to read all without having to wait, though I often do if the first in the series is good.
Cinder is a great character, so spunky and determined to do what's right even if it's not in her best interest, and even if the one she cares for is someone she can never be with. The background is totally creative and believable, which isn't often the case, especially with the retelling of a fairytale, which this

I liked this book a lot. It was definitely exciting. I did guess the twist at the very beginning, though, the moment they told about Celene. I mentioned it to my son (10) as we were listening. Pretty early on, when her sister gets sick, he said it was too sad and he didn't want to listen to the rest.

Okay, now this is kind of cheating, but I'm writing this review after reading the whole series. NO spoilers, I promise.

You know how some series start out so amazing, and then they sort of peter out,

I have to say, Meyer puts an interesting perspective on fairy tales. She takes a simple, obvious plot-line and adds a little twist to surprise the reader. The futuristic Cinderella story wasn't complicated, but the author's knack for detail and her extensive culture and medical research was obvious. The romance between Cinder and Prince Kai was a bit cheesy and reminded me quite a bit of the movie "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott. Seen from the main character's perspective, how ...more

So can we just give Marissa Meyer all the stars?
A forbidden romance.A deadly plague.Earth's fate hinges on one girl . . .
