Queen of the beach read! This was a finish in one day book and I did not realize how much I wanted a new Emily story until I dove in.

Daphne! Really quickly, can I say how much I loved that she wasn’t just a meek woman when she ran into Peter for the first time? Nothing drives me crazy more than when women (or men) just get tongue tied and steam rolled in those conversations. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions I wasn’t prepared for, but I’m so glad I took the ride. From the laughter that had me snickering at the most unexpected moments to the heart-wrenching twists that had me gripping the edge of my seat, I felt everything. The way Emily Henry pulls you into a whirlwind of feelings is something special. I found myself yelling at characters (yes, Peter, I’m looking at you) and holding my breath during some of the most intense moments. It was a completely immer This book was a rollercoaster of emotions I wasn’t prepared for, but I’m so glad I took the ride. The way Emily Henry pulls you into a whirlwind of feelings is something special. I found myself yelling at characters (yes, Peter, I’m looking at you) and holding my breath during some of the most intense moments. It was a completely immersive experience—one I didn’t want to end.

Emily Henry’s writing is pure magic. She knows how to make you feel—all of it. Just when you think the emotional punch is over, she finds a way to hit you right in the chest again. The emotional depth she weaves into every scene makes you experience the highs and lows alongside the characters. And the way she manages to make you laugh in between the tears? That’s an art. The emotional rollercoaster this book took me on was unforgettable. I finished it with my heart full, but also aching in the most beautiful way possible.

The characters felt so real. They weren’t just names on a page; they were people I connected with, understood, and cared about. Daphne and Miles especially went through so much growth and struggle, and it was impossible not to see myself in their journeys. Their emotional battles, both internal and external, were raw and relatable, and it felt like I was right there with them every step of the way. “The same universe that dispassionately takes things away can bring you things you weren’t imaginative enough to dream up” — those words hit me hard, and I couldn’t stop thinking about them long after finishing the book. Life’s unpredictability is something we all know, and this book captured that so beautifully.

One of the things I loved most was the friendship between Daphne and Ashleigh. The dynamic between them was so real and heartwarming. Ashleigh’s backstory and growth throughout the book were unexpected but so satisfying. It wasn’t just about the romance—it was about the deeper, life-changing relationships we have with our friends. Their bond was one of my favorite aspects, and it really made me appreciate the friendships in my own life.

Now, let’s talk about Miles and Daphne. Their chemistry was electric. They fit together like puzzle pieces, even if they didn’t realize it at first. Their relationship as roommates was hilarious, sweet, and undeniably fun. Watching them go from awkward encounters to a fiery, passionate connection had me hooked. And then there was Miles—wow. His transformation from the cool, collected guy to someone so vulnerable and raw was captivating. “He nuzzles into my throat, lets his hand graze down my chest, rolling against me until I can barely breathe” … seriously, if that doesn’t make your heart race, I don’t know what will. And the moment when Miles says, “You make love so easy, Daphne,” had me swooning. It’s a line I’ll definitely be remembering.

Beyond the romance, I loved watching Daphne’s growth. She wasn’t just learning to open her heart to Miles—she was learning to open it to herself. She navigated her own struggles, fears, and past while slowly building a future she could be proud of. That journey was empowering and made me root for her even more.

There were a couple of moments, though, that left me feeling like something could have been different:
• The lack of Miles’s POV left me craving more insight into his mind. We saw glimpses of his feelings, but a deeper dive would’ve made his character feel even more multidimensional, especially when it came to his past.
• The awkward family moments with Daphne’s relatives cramming themselves into Miles’s apartment had me wincing. While it added humor to the story, it also made me feel for Miles in a big way. I couldn’t help but wish they’d just opted for a hotel instead of making themselves at home in his space.
• The whole Perta drama was a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I understand that Miles is a caring person, but the way he handled the situation left me with mixed feelings. He could have set clearer boundaries, and I think Perta needed more than just emotional support—she needed help that was a bit more independent from Miles.
• As much as I appreciated the realistic ending, I couldn’t help but want a little more closure for Miles and Daphne. Seeing them struggle financially after everything they’d been through felt like the story was holding back just a little from giving them the true happiness I wished for them.

Despite these small frustrations, this book was an unforgettable read. Emily Henry’s ability to create such real, emotionally complex characters, paired with a gripping and funny storyline, made this a book I’ll hold close to my heart for a long time. If you’re looking for something that’s equal parts funny, moving, and beautifully written, this is a must-read. I can’t wait to see what Emily Henry brings us next. ...more

Emily Henry never disappoints. I am so happy to have a book for the hater girls who are suspicious of lifelong friends who are obviously in love with each other. This book was so well written, and I fell in love with Miles and Daphne’s banter and relationship. The wit, the atmosphere, the characters….all 5/5.

This book had me giggling the whole time. I’m not usually a golden retriever MMC type of girl but Miles was written perfectly. And I related to Daphne so much. These characters and this story… Emily Henry does it again.
