Mmmmkkkk....

Well, let's start with some things I liked about this book. I enjoyed the multitude of different creatures. That's one thing that Maas never fails to deliver. The creepier and crawlier the better. I also liked the FMC and MMC. They're tortured and opinionated and relatable.

But, let's get into the much longer list of things I didn't like. I didn't like how really, if you get down to it, romance is a subplot in this. It mainly is a fantasy mystery. I also didn't like how for the first Mmmmkkkk....

Well, let's start with some things I liked about this book. I enjoyed the multitude of different creatures. That's one thing that Maas never fails to deliver. The creepier and crawlier the better. I also liked the FMC and MMC. They're tortured and opinionated and relatable.

But, let's get into the much longer list of things I didn't like. I didn't like how really, if you get down to it, romance is a subplot in this. It mainly is a fantasy mystery. I also didn't like how for the first 500-600 pages, most of it could have been chopped out. For example, why did we get ANY of Ruhn's perspective. It wasn't necessary and it stopped like somewhere before the half way point. And there was just a LOT of walking around or having mundane conversations between characters and we didn't need all of that. But after having read every single other book by SJM, this is her trademark. Over explanation and lack of editing (are they scared to piss her off or something??). So I shouldn't have been that surprised.

Next, I really didn't like the EXTREMELY - and I want to reiterate this word again - EXTREMELY complicated political system. There are quite literally groups within groups within divisions within legions within hierarchies within regions, and it's just annoying. It's again, not necessary, and only adds to the long convoluted pages that could have been better if cleaned up and edited.

Now, I did enjoy the ending mostly. I really like the action (even if again this all lasted quite a long time). I like how Hunt and Bryce's relationship blossom (even if I'm sour that there's really no romance). I just think overall, I can't go above a 3 star - initially for the first 500 pages I was going to go with a 1 or 2. It's just not great writing if there's hundreds upon hundreds of pages of fluff. Maybe this is a 2.5 rounded up. Regardless, I am obviously going against popular opinion (unless these 5 stars are majorly bought but that's a theory and conversation for another thread). ...more

The first 75% of the book was world building and was going to be nothing more than a 4 star book introducing me to a unique and complex world…then part IV hit. The last 25% of the book made me cry and I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Also, an epilogue?? This book was so unlike anything I have read by SJM and I am excited to continue.

This book was... a book!

(Not a great one)

Maas has deviated from her old worldbuilding style (See Throne of Glass) and begun dumping everything together, assuming that her readers will be so desperate for another Rhysand copy that they will ignore bad writing.

Her idea was not bad (Zootopia was a great film!). The characters were not bad, even. It just didn't all tie together. This book should have been separated into several books, or not written at all...? ...more

Eger bu kitaba yeni basladiysaniz ve akmiyorsa, bende bir sorun mu var, halbuki herkes cok seviyor diyorsaniz sirtinizi sivazlayip diren demek istiyorum. Bu gunler de geciyor😂 kitabin ilk 500 sayfasinda bu kadar zorlanmasaydim ve kafam karismasaydi 5 yildizdi.

I can't take it anymore.....half way through the book and nothing happens. NOTHING, just non-stop investigation and googly-eyes....
