Wow, that was a lot. I feel like I read three books. But it was so enthralling, I couldn’t put it down. This was so dark- the atrocities it was based upon were so beyond heinous, it was hard to read. But the author did such a good job at bringing you in from the start and keeping you curious. I’m heartbroken and nervous to start the next one. This was brutal to read, but in a good way

Rin’s journey is intense and often disturbing, showing the true cost of power and revenge. Kuang’s writing is sharp, emotional, and unafraid to show the darkest sides of war.
