So this author seems to have learned from Harry Potter, Lord of the Flies and the Hunger Games at minimum. There is also a direct reference to Jane Eyre for those who like classic English literature.

It's a teenage magic school dystopian (kind of) adventure. It's also insightful about human beings and moral questions and political and economic tradeoffs. It speaks to the best and worst choices human beings make. It is dark without being grim dark. I haven't decided whether to finish the series b ...more

Phew. It has good writing and a strong female character which I love, but I definitively should've read this earlier because while it's a good book it's for a younger audience. ...more
