I'm very excited to bring you this new English historical novel, No Ocean Too Wide. When the three youngest McAlister children are taken away from their widowed mother and emigrated to Canada without her knowledge or permission, the oldest sister sets off to find them and reunite the family, but her journey is much more difficult than she ever expected. She needs the help of a wealthy young solicitor and a renewal of her faith to meet those challenges. I was deeply touched when I researched chil

I received a free copy of this book through Net Galley from the publisher.
No Ocean Too Wide was a touching, genuine story about a family battling through the child emigration era in the early 1900's.
I really enjoyed this story! I connected with the McAllister family right away. The writing was quick to read through, and I was engaged the whole time! The plot was realistic but exciting, and I really enjoyed the bits of romance included as well.

No Ocean Too Wide is Carrie Turansky at her finest, as she weaves rich historical details and engaging characters with the heart-wrenching complexities surrounding the emigration of British Home Children in the early 1900s. I thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into English and Canadian history, with its echoes of the trials faced by orphans in books such as Anne of Green Gables, and the strong message of faith and trust in the Heavenly Father who never abandons us.

Shocking mistreatment of British children unjustly apprehended by government systems in their overreaching attempts of societal control. Effects on the members of this story's one family are heartbreaking while their personal determination is inspiring.

Ready for the sequel now! Deep characters, plenty action. The lack of integrity (in general) in the early years of adoption from England to Canadian families is spelled out well. The oldest sister in this story goes to amazing lengths for the love of her siblings -- much determination and grit. Well-written. Excellent read!

I enjoyed the audio version of this book. The narration is wonderful and the story is riveting. While romance is in the mix, it is not the main thrust of the story. This book has brought great interest to me about the child immigration program in England. I had no idea there was ever such a thing. In some ways I see how it could be beneficial to children with no family, but it appears it was far from flawless and like the Orphan Trains in the US there was plenty of bad with the good.

No Ocean Too Wide is the first book in the McAlister Family series written by Carrie Turansky. I have read her Edwardian Brides series and I really enjoyed those books so I was looking forward to this new series. Before reading, I was unaware of the British emigration program that sent young children on ships across the Atlantic to begin new lives as domestics in Canada. While I am sure that some children were placed into loving homes where they were embraced as a member of the family, this nove

Absolutely incredible!
I was completely engrossed from the first page! This book was SO good. Carrie Turansky's No Ocean Too Wide took me back to 1908 and told me about the British Home Children program. This book is so well researched and skillfully written that I really struggled to stop reading and get my work done. The fear and grief of Laura, Katie, Garth and Grace's mum as she heard that her three youngest children had been emigrated to Canada was heart wrenching. Laura's journey to find he ...more

Wow! I was caught up in this book from the very beginning and loved the journey Turansky took me on from inner city London to the rural lands of Canada and back again. This was a truly powerful book about the blessings and the hardships experienced by the British Home Children and their families from the years 1869-1939. No Ocean Too Wide was both heartbreaking and uplifting as Laura and her companions raced to discover what happened to her siblings.

I read this book via audiobook and was completely captivated by the storyline from the very beginning. I felt deeply invested in the characters and their plight and couldn’t wait to learn more about them. I had never heard of British Home Children until this book which is the first part of the McAlister family saga. With its inspiring message, wonderful storytelling and great narration, this is a must read!
