Surprisingly Miss Marple does not make an entrance until page 142! Still I enjoyed the brother and sister combo and the plot was excellent. Once I would like to solve one of these mysteries. Alas I failed again although when Miss Marple explains her reasoning its blindingly obvious! Ah poison pen letters.

My favourite Miss Marple. Whilst reading as a cozy, chatty memoir, Christie builds in an unsettling feeling of normality skewed, where distrust becomes the norm and neighbour suspects neighbour. The emotions surrounding a poison pen outbreak are deftly captured, with some interesting digressions into idleness and innovation, and the cause of Goneril and Regan's nastiness. Miss Marple hardly appears, but this does not matter in a book where Megan, Joanna and Jerry himself shine in the firmament.

So I'm 70% through this book, and Miss Marple turns up, does very little, and gets part credit for solving the mystery? Still this was a fun book, even if Miss Marple felt tacked on for posterities sake.

This was my second Miss Marple novel. I really enjoyed it, but I found the solution and the 'grand reveal' at the end to be slightly underwhelming compared to other Christie novels-I'm finding that that seems to be the case with the Miss Marple mysteries (or at lease the two I've read so far).
