I just joined a book club and this was the first pick. While I like historical fiction I have to admit that this time period/location was not my favorite. Apart from not being initially interested in this book, I really liked the beginning. I liked our main character Alice and thought she was an interesting character to read about. Her struggles with moving to a new place and having a husband who didn’t love her made me really sympathize for her. I also liked Margery whose strength was inspiring

I enjoyed this book. I did find it a little harder to get into than other books from Jojo but once I was in, it was a gripping read.
Set in Kentucky between the 1930s and 1940s, it tells of the Horseback Librarians - a group of women who are determined to bring the power of reading to those who can't access it.
