(I'm not sure if I should put, "Spoiler Alert," as although I do not give away the ending of this book, I do delve into much of the story line, which may ruin the surprise element for some people, so read at your own discretion! :) )

I enjoy this book. It was definitely not a book I would have picked up myself if not for a group read. It was an insight into a culture that I know very little. I liked seeing that someone who is so mistreated through out her life with such hardships takes upon herself the mothering of someone not her own and helps bring more joy into her life. In Un conventional ways she spares others from the continence of what she had always had to endure knowing that it meant her own demise.

Ok, so this was a great book, but not so light and fluffy. It recounts Afganistan history from the 1960's to the present time as told throught the perspective of oppressed women. I cried my eyes out and was deeply impressed by the images portrayed. I don't have too many of these types of books on my book list because I just can't handle it emotionally. So having said that, it is still a very good book, and I would highly suggest it.
