I cannot wait to see where this series goes in the next book! I love Laini Taylor's imaginative writing so I wanted to read this book as soon as I seen it for preorder on Amazon. Her mythology and world building is so unique. Her world building hits my personal preference perfectly since I hate when world building takes a good portion of the book. This was a completely new and magical reading experience for me. Instead of rushing through it like I usually do to know how it ends, I savoured it. I felt compelled to from the first chapter. I found the writing so atmospheric and enchanting. I really enjoyed being in this book and in this world.
This is a well developed world with an interesting backstory and characters. I really enjoyed the fact that there really aren’t any hugely obvious good guys or bad guys. They are layered, complex chara ...more

The writing was, at times beautiful and at times lacking. Plot was formulaic, similar to just about every YA fantasy book. They all follow the same outline and it is a tired one. I wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't. ...more
