Honestly, this book made me cry. This rarely happens, but this one did. It's an incredible, almost unbelievable, story of a man that is working as a tattooist in a concentration camp, Auschwitz. His job is to tattoo the numbers that are the new identities of people that arrive to the camp.
This book is beautifully written and the author tries to tell us the story as accurately as possible with the help of Lale, the main character in the story.

I was really looking forward to reading this book when it was chosen in my book club. However after finishing it I have to admit I didn't enjoy it. I have a strong interest in this period in history and have read many fiction and non fiction on the subject. This is not one to read if you have the same interest.

Lale Sokolov contacted the author to tell her the story of his Halocaust years in captivity. Because he was able to speak six languages he is assigned to the position of tattooist. While a grisly job, it allows him a few perks. He is a smart, nimble worker, helper, and survivor. He recants the horrors of his three years as a prisoner.
