4.25 stars.
I am partial to psychological thrillers, especially ones with strong female characters. And this one fulfilled both criteria.
The title features significantly in the story as it is about women who jump into , or are thrown in to the dark lake formed off a plateau or a cliff by slow flowing river. This had occurred since perhaps 17th century onward when the initial women were accused of witchcraft and recent ones of adultery.

This is one of those books I hadn't intended to read. I saw it when I was out and looked at the first page. Two chapters later I realized I was going to have to take the dratted thing home with me.

I loved the mystery in Girl on the Train but it was a chore to finish the book because I didn't care two cents about the characters. THIS story was much more interesting once I adjusted to all of the different POVs. Even in listening to the audiobook with a full cast, their voices were often too much alike to make a difference.
As far as the mystery is concerned, I figured it out --- for the most part, there was a slight twist that was unexpected and she certainly sends you on false signals. But ...more

Enjoyable read--the story definitely gets you interested and invested in finding out what's going on, and that's all I really expect from a mystery novel. I definitely would've liked more of the supernatural side of things explored and developed. A lot of the supernatural elements alluded to are never really explained or expanded on, which is disappointing given the opportunity and the mood of the book.
