Shelves: all-time-fav, made-me-cry, fast-paced

First time I read it I gave 4 stars.
Now, I enjoyed it more. I was not sure if I wanted to continue the trilogy so I decided to reread the first volume and see how I feel about it.
Really enjoyed the world and characters. Yum.

Shadow and Bone is the first book in the Grisha Trilogy and is loosely based on Russian folklore.
A story about this average looking, and naive ( a lot naive) girl named Alina who reveals her dormant power when her Best friend- Mal, is attacked and saves his life. This gets her whisked into a royal court to be trained as a Grisha, the magical elites led by the mysterious Darkling to free her war- ravaged country from war and The Fold haunted by Volcras.

Shadow and Bone is a young adult fantasy that is well-written and thoughtfully planned. It is a solid first book that hits all the right marks that make the readers thirst for more action, drama, and romance.

I feel like I might have just outgrown this particular YA. The plot itself felt extremely rushed, the characters lacked depth, and it just fell flat. I think the story idea itself is great and so intriguing but I just found all the other elements of this story lacking.
