2018 Just finished this again with my husband in prep for book three in May. It was so fun to read it to the hubs again. He kept saying at especially good parts, "I don't remember any of this. Read on!" Loved it. Now on to Torch. Yay!!

I never got excited about this story. This really doesn’t come as a total surprise as I am not a fan of the genre. Nonetheless it’s still somewhat of a letdown due to the fact that it’s such a highly rated series.
Although Ember mostly feels like a unique story, there are obvious similarities to the Hunger Games, Divergent, and Red Rising. The warring factions, the trials, and even the supernatural elements failed to interest me. Elias and Laia’s developing relationship was the only thing that k ...more
