Shelves: dystopian, ya, post-apocalyptic

4.5 Stars! The Fifth Wave isn't my typical quick pick book...it's about an alien invasion after all, BUT it is YA dystopia/post-apocalyptic writing at its best. Huge kudos to Yancy for writing complex and oh so perfectly imperfect characters that I absolutely love! Cassie's lonely journey from violent distrust to falling for the enemy read seamlessly and every word had me hooked. This book was really amazing and deserves more than five stars. It is a crazy dystopian/alien invasion/sci-fi novel that had me hooked from page one. The alien invasion story line reminded me a little of "The Host" with aliens looking human, and there were some similarities with the theme of the humans trying to hold on to their humanity, but "The 5th Wave" took the idea to an entirely different level.'

While in the supermarket last week, I stopped at the book section. After quickly scanning several titles and authors, my eye stopped at The Fifth Wave. The back cover blurb was, “Eh? Okay. Not stellar, but maybe…” Truthfully, I bought it because I liked the cover art. Later that evening I sat down and opened the book, hoping that perhaps I hadn’t wasted $7.50.
