This has to be the most hilarious book I've ever read. Ever!
If you're looking for a comedic work, parodying all the trite YA novels out there, this book is definitely for you!

We have our heroine, of course. The beautiful...expressive...romantic Juliette, who is caught in between your typical love triangle, with the "teams" and such. She is a passionate character, frequently expressing anger, shock, sadness and pain. She is a very loving character who wears her heart on her sleeve, and her falli This has to be the most hilarious book I've ever read. Ever!

She is a passionate character, frequently expressing anger, shock, sadness and pain. She is a very loving character who wears her heart on her sleeve, and her falling in love with a villain who forces her to torture others is proof of that. She is very intelligent and a deep thinker as well, and frequently thinks of deep, philosophical gems like these:

I'm flushed through my feet, filled with unspoken everything.

So much everything all the things dead.

He has a small smile the size of Jupiter.

Every night there are sounds I can't hear.

I'm wondering why there are so many freight trains in my heart, why his chest is a broken harmonica.

He's more wrong than an upside-down rainbow.

...An unfamiliar texture brushes my skin. It's rough and foreign but familiar.

Blood is bleeding all over my mind.

My body is in a blender. I'm made of mush.

In correlation with the last two quotes, one cannot help but notice that Juliette has an earnest fascination with the human body. Her eagerness and enthusiasm are glaringly obvious within these quotes:

My mouth is sitting on my kneecaps.

I inhale so fast my lungs collapse.

Someone is cutting off my neck.

My heart soars and plummets at the same time.

...400 cotton balls stuck in my windpipe.

Every organ in my body falls to the floor.

But enough of my sarcasm. This book was dreadful. And sadly, it is most definitely not a parody, despite the outrageous writing. I had never even heard of it until I saw it on listopia somewhere a few months ago. Now all of a sudden, tumblr users I follow are talking about how amazingly awesome it is and every bookstore I go into has it prominently displayed like it was just released.

Sure, the painfully funny metaphors are entertaining, (I read some of them to my grandmother and she couldn't get over the "he's more wrong than an upside-down rainbow" quote!) but when there aren't any hanging around, the story is awfully dull. It's weird. After I was done laughing and snorting in hysterics over Juliette's latest drama fest, I would sigh and think, "Hahaha. I have so many new books to read. I should probably read those instead to cleanse my mind from this stupidity." I bought about thirteen new books over the summer, so I was in heaven reading new releases, and stuff by my favorite authors that I had been wanting to read for a long while. After finishing them, I thought back to this and died a little inside.

This book was amazing! Juliette is strong and smart and kind, despite how horribly she was raised, and all the characters got me really hooked. The way Juliette thinks and how the book is written is really poetic and expressive, it gives you an idea of how messed up her thoughts and how bad the situations she's in are. The whole storyline was just so exciting and interesting and wow there are no words for how much I loved it ...more
