This was thrilling and interesting from page 1. The saga of Katniss and her dystopian world continues. She has two suitors - Gayle (or Gail?) and Petah. I prefer Petah to Gayle, but Katniss doesnot seem to think so. In the beginning of the book she is relatively comfortably settled after winning the hunger games and being much richer because of the same, but then her almost tranquil world is shattered when she manages to irk the Capitol once more and is punished for the same by President Snow. A re-read, since we had just read THE HUNGER GAMES for class, and because I realized that I had raced through this second book, when it first came out a few years ago. I actually think I might like this one a little better than the first book in the trilogy - certainly not as much description of the process behind the Games in book #2, but Collins didn't need to provide that. Instead, readers get much more of a look at the contestants themselves, and the way alliances can shift and evolve during

Some things are hinted out, but the full affect of what is going on isn't totally revealed until the very end. And WOW! Talk about surprises all throughout. The first book I knew what would eventually happen (you know that somehow Katniss is going to win), but with this book, you have no idea what the next page will bring. It was SO exciting that I could not put it down!!! Great new characters and great new plot twists. I want the next book now! I sense big things!

There are a few other reviewers out there who can express the issues with this book (and the series in general) better than I can (or even have the energy to). Suffice it to say, I really don't get the hype surrounding this series. Perhaps my bar for Young Adult fiction, and particularly Distopian fiction, is too high. I struggled -- really struggled -- to get through this book, and finally finished it on my fourth attempt.

Skillfully written page turner and a classic "middle story" of a trilogy. Slightly over-structured for my taste, but it does read along and hurtles the reader toward book 3.

2020 It was so fun to read this book to my kids! They loved it just as much as I did. It’s even better the second third fourth fifth time through.
2013-2016 W-O-W! This was such a fantastic sequel to the first book. I feel just like I did at the end of the first one - I want more. It was awesome. I just wish I didn't have to wait for the next one. ...more

Simply AMAZING.
Why did it take so long for me to read this? Starting Mockingjay NOW.
