To be honest, I have sort of become tired of young adult books. I'll always be a huge Harry Potter fan, and some of the YA books I read in the 70's are classic (Judy Blume or Paula Danziger, anyone?) Nevertheless, I just can't bring myself to read Twilight or any of the other teen vampire or witch stories. Fans, please don't hurt me.

That said, The Hunger Games is really good and I recommend it to anyone age 12 and up. It has upsetting violent scenes which I don't think most younger kids are read

Still keep assigning this novel for classes, still keep loving the re-reads. With the movie now just days away, I do want to go back to books 2 and 3, as well (like, for real this time - not like when I obviously stated it last spring, and didn't follow up).

"'Katniss, it's just hunting. You're the best hunter I know,' says Gale.

'It's not just hunting. They're armed. They think,' I say.

'So do you. And you've had more practice. Real practice,' he says. 'You know how to kill.'

'Not people,' I say.

District 12 is considered low ranking to win in the fights they have to play for the Capitol. Each year the capitol will draw two names from each district to fight to the death. They will start with 24 kids, whoever is the last girl/boy standing will get supplies for their family for a year. A much needed thing since they are rationed out lightly.

If you want to get more food for the family you can add your name to the drawing for each family member you want to add. More chances to get picked. N

March 2020 Social Distancing Quarantine, Book 2

This was the second book that I read to my kids during our quarantine stay-at-home social distancing. It was so fun to share this story with them and to discuss how, even though we were currently experiencing a pretty crazy time in history with the Coronavirus, wouldn’t it be awful to live in a world where our country would condone something as awful as The Hunger Games? It was also interesting to compare how our current world does emulate things in

I don't normally write reviews, but given the hype surrounding this series, this was one occasion where I feel the need to briefly express my opinion about this series.

I thought books one and two were good, but not great, and I was quite happy to leave it at that. Yet, the more I'm beaten over the head by people who love THG, the more I find myself really disliking this series, and really not feeling very motivated to read the final installment soon, if at all.

There are a few other reviewers ou

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book! The Hunger Games is totally my type of entertainment! It has the sum up all the ingredients I love in a good, fun read...romance, intrigue, interesting characters, action, even a bit of humor amongst the horror...I could go on and on. I read this book from cover to cover in under 3 hours. I couldn't put it down! Now I am dying in anticipation for the sequel. ...more
