#2 in the Rock Chick series

1/22/25 to 2/2/25 - 5 stars - Now that I've listened to this whole series and am starting over again, I just love this series. It's entertaining, fast-moving, and adorable. The characters are great! Jet has always taken care of herself and everyone around her, so she's having a hard time adjusting to Indy and Eddie and the whole gang wanting to help her. She's been taking care of her mother after her stroke, struggling with finances and working two jobs. In addition, s

This is the second book in Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick series. I am finding this a very funny and sometimes laugh out loud series and am really enjoying her reading style. Ms. Ashley is a no frills writer, and I really like that as her writing is straight forward and simple – no bubbling words coming out of these apha males. I re-read "Rock Chick", then proceeded with the second, Rock Chick Rescue" (and truth to tell the third as well).

They're formulaic. We meet a plain-Jane (she thinks) heroine, who meets a fantastic looking guy. Their eyes lock in recognition and a tingling feeling zings her "hoo hah" (the author's term). Jet McAlister, the newest employee of Fortnum's Bookstore, is completely oblivious to that fact that the police detective, Eddie Chavez, is interested in her. Jet is always busy doing whatever she has to do to take care of her family. Her loser father has abandoned them and Jet also works parttime as a waitress in a strip joint to take care of her mother who's still recovering from a stroke.

When her dad comes back to town he owes a lot of money to criminals who want to be paid back. They're not

Once again I have to say that I cringe with some of the stereotypes. I read books about alpha men all the time who get unreasonable about their women slighting them in some way or another., of all shades and colors. But because Eddie is mexican-american, according to the author, "they tended to be both proud and macho". I just didn't like that. It's not the first time this author has generalized in a way that I thought was a bit sketchy. But this one was blatant and kind of turned me off.
