PKD’s view on mental health, race, and gender issues are a little out of date (this book was written in the 1950s I think) and some of the content would likely offend many readers. Nevertheless the concepts and ideas PKD raised about subjects such as autism, and schizophrenia were fascinating to me. I consumed the audio book version, the quality of the recording became very poor near the end of the book, ironically it actually added to the effect and I really didn’t mind.

Some interesting ideas that sort of fall flat due to the pseudo science sci approach to mental illness, namely schizophrenia. One can imagine PKD reading something in a magazine back in the 60’s and getting an idea for a quick churn out. That said, there are still a few good twists and Dick’s life-on-mars series of stories and books always amuses.
