i'm surprised by how much i actually loved this. this book felt absolutely magical in every sense of the word, it was whimsical, mysterious and absolutely mesmerizing. i was entranced with the vivid writing, and it was very easy for me to imagine the world and immerse myself in it. i've heard this being described as a darker, more mature alice in wonderland and i have t "Every person has the power to change their fate if they are brave enough to fight for what they desire more than anything."

and just between me and you.. this book was exactly what i was expecting the night circus to be, and everything i had hoped for it to be, except the night circus fell completely flat for me and caraval absolutely delivered. a magical world with a suspenseful plot, intriguing characters and a romance i actually cared about?? thank u stephanie garber.

the characters weren't really complex but i liked them for the most part. i mean scarlett only had 2 personality traits (her sister and her marriage), but i liked her a fair amount. donatella was lowkey giving taryn energy the whole time and i still don't trust her so i'm gonna keep an eye out on her. legend is just super mysterious and compelling, we don't know a whole lot about him yet so i'm really curious to get to know him more in the next books! and then there's julian who was enigmatic but also did all those cute little things, like when he brought her the earrings back.. mr. "is this close enough for you?".. ok yeah, i enjoyed their relationship, they had really cute moments.

"She remembered thinking falling for him would be like falling in love with darkness, but now she imagined he was more like a starry night: the constellations were always there, constant, magnificent guides against the ever-present black."

the story was full of illusions and deceptions, which had me questioning everything. i didn't know what was real and what wasn't, the twists were constantly giving me whiplash in the best way possible. the story was just so captivating and unpredictable (to me) which made this such a fun journey. the ending of the book has just enough supense that it leaves you wanting more, and i truly do want more. i just couldn't get enough of this world and i can't wait to continue on with the next books and then start once upon a broken heart soon!! ...more

Update after a reread 11/10/24:
The beginning of the book feels really magical and captivating, the world really draws you into its own magical fantasy. However there’s so much missing parts about the world building, leaving gaps in the lore and making it feel underdeveloped. So much happened in the last 30 pages that at some point I lost where we were and what just happened. בין הספרים הכי מטרילים והמשוגעים שקראתי מבחינת תפניות בעלילה, תמיד היה משהו, והבנייה של העולם שם🤌🤌
בקיצור הפך להיות בין הספרים האהובים עלי ואין לי מושג למה הפסקתי לקרוא אותו פעם, לכו לקרוא אותו זה ככ שווה את זה😭😭
