I read to escape. This felt like a lecture. The story itself was great but the book could have been 500 pages of snooze shorter if the etymology part was condensed. And the dialogue seemed so forced in so many places in order to bring in more etymology. Who in their right mind looks at a sunrise and starts contemplating the Chinese character for sunrise and then has a conversation with another character (who actually seems really interested) about how beautiful the pictograph is? I listened to the audiobook. Nothing happened for 13 hours and even when it got interesting in the last 8 hours of the book, it became predictable. This was such a disappointing book and it felt so overdone.
