4.5 stars. my first fantasy book ever and i was not disappointed. fantasy is a real challenge for my brain, but i love how the “real” world is also included to make things not so overwhelming. i loved jude’s confidence and that cardan’s complexity kept me engaged the whole time. & the way they interact is soooo intriguing. i wasn’t expecting there to be murder and politics but it just made everything better. i cant wait to see how this world progresses and develops in the next 2 books! also can

surprisingly darker than i expected, the cruel prince had a lot more political (?) intrigue than romance. power is always a game, and the way the pieces were played in this book was interesting enough to have me returning, one plot twist after the other.
